Project Description

This virtual museum or Wunderkammer houses erotica and popular culture produced and/or consumed in early twentieth century Spain. The site is a companion to the scholarly monograph, Cultures of the Erotic.

Dr. Zubiaurre explains that “the main purpose of the book/website is to unearth the wealth of popular erotic materials that animated the urban life of Spain during the first half of the Twentieth Century, and which was later forcefully repressed and thus ‘forgotten’ during the Franco era.”

I worked with Dr. Zubiaurre to convert the digital companion to her monograph from a WordPress site to a content management system designed for the dissemination of scholarly materials. We selected Omeka-a popular option for scholars wanting to share digital collections (including photographs, audio files, PDFs, digital maps, timelines and even network analysis models) and create complex narratives with the items from their collections, while upholding metadata standards. You can read more about Omeka in the post I contributed to the UCLA Center for Digital Humanities’ blog.
