Project Description

Using digital storytelling, members of the native communities in the greater Los Angeles area tell their stories by marking and describing significant locations and events on digital maps of the area. I worked with an interdisciplinary team of professors, graduate students, and undergraduates to design and build a prototype digital map and containing website. Together, we built a collection of Tongva and Kuruvungna materials, with the input and guidance of the tribal community.

The work accomplished for Mapping Indigenous LA was featured on the UCLA Center for Digital Humanities’s blog. You can listen to an interview and read more about the project through coverage from Southern California Public Radio KPCC, found at this link.
