Project Description

Our goal was to examine the archive of Mencía de Mendoza (1508-1554) from sixteenth-century Spain in order to track the circulation of artworks and materials across the world. At the early stages of the project, our CDH RITC team collaborated with the PI, Professor Charlene Black from the UCLA Art History Department, and special collections librarians from the Getty Center to parse through the over 12,000 digitized archival documents from the Getty special collections. We worked with a sampling of documents to designate the searchable criteria necessary for applying network analysis and geospatial techniques to its data.
